So elephantine SEARS in going outta business, and sneaky f***ers be they!
2 weeks ago--it was 50% Off everything. No big whoop because the f***ers marked everything up to "full retail ticket" price (which is NUTS... only the MALLS do that!).
So a pair of nice LEVI'S with an overly inflated ticket of $59.99 is $29.99 . Big shit.
The next week; it oddly jumped to 60% off, and because of the higher ticket prices; most of what's left was just no great steal/deal.
The only way to win is to go there everyday--and try to "hide" things you want to buy at 80% off! (This practice NEVER works-- ask people who live in sit-coms).
Now they seemed to be stalled out at 60% and the store is getting very crowded and annoying .
They are open till APRIL 1st- so lets see.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 23, 2018Previous reviewMoby Dick is finally going down ! This lumbering , deathly, dirge-like store has it's days numbered .
I'm happy-sad about this because over the years; I have gotten GREAT bargains from here. Especially when it's "off season" (summer clothes go down really cheap in the fall / Christmas & winter clothes go down really cheap by early spring, etc).
Oh how I love all my Dickies short sleeved shirts with the snap buttons that coast a mere $9.99 !
Things I will NOT miss about this store :
1)The Temperature in the store. No matter what the weather is like outside; SEARS loves to CRANK UP THE HEAT inside making waiting on their long slow lines INSUFFERABLE beyond words. An average July 4th weekend and Sears will have their heat blasting at 79 degrees . Their heating bill must have been $34,000.00 a month. Just NON STOP heat in the store.
2) The Zombie-like workers. Oh dear Jesus; send these people to Clown School or something. And NO; I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE YOU MY PHONE NUMBER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3) Slow as molasses check out lines that double as water torture. Like trailing a school of Slugs thru a gallon of Elmer's School Glue on a hot pavement. Just .............. slow........................really................incredibly.........slow.......
P.S. The 50% off is kinda bullshitty right now. They are going by "full-on retail sticker price" which are kinda high . I priced checked a crappy no-name polo shirt that at 50-off rang up at....$19.00 (!) crazy. It should have been like $4.99. The store seems 1/4 empty now and they tell us that they are open till April (!) yeah right-- all that will be left is counters , cash registers and tons of hangers.......
And gee I wonder if new ugly expensive CONDOS/ apartments will pop up on this site by next winter ?Feb 7, 2016Previous reviewWhy on earth does this ghosty place still exist!?
Vegetable-like service by barely-humans --that I understand.
BUT WHY DEAR GOD IS IT ALWAYS SO HOT IN THERE! The temperature is always well into the 80s and 90s even if it's pleasant outside! WTF!!!!!
On a good note: Sometimes you can score quiet well on their clearance racks "after-season" (School / Christmas / Summer / Winter ).
PLEASE wear your shorts, tank tops and flop flops in here-- even if it's winter outside.
P.S. PLENTY of parking by the way. LOL. - Bill W.NY, United States02216Oct 10, 2018
I once bought a portable water heater there, it didn't work as advertized so I returned it and they charged me $147 re-stocking fee
I never bought anything there again, glad they are closed, who needs themHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paul F.Queens, Queens, United States0112Jul 5, 2021
Oh how the mighty have fallen!
Sears used to be the best. I remember going there in the late 60s with my parents. Sears had everything and we bought everything there. You name it from paint to custom ordered furniture. Cloths too. . Back in 1970 they even installed an air conditioner in my parents 68 Fairlane before our trip to Florida. At the time the Hicksville auto center even sold gas, Five grades with the least expensive.25 cents a gallon! Could even pay with Sears charge. Back then stores didn't take any other card but their own I had several cars serviced there and their lifetime warranty on things like shocks mufflers and even alignments were the best. But on Saturday better arrive early cause the line was down the parking lot. . And yes we got the catalogs but mostly bought stuff from the sales flyers which arrived pretty often. One could ship to home or pick up in store. The latter costing less in shipping. No such thing as online ordering. One called the store and they would take order or use an order blank and mail it in. In store one could order from a live person and they actually helped you. All catalogs were around to look at too Sears had an extensive service department. Branches were everywhere for carry in stuff or parts etc. I recall the Sears repair truck pulling up and a tech fixing our Coldspot fridge. That name was used for those things back then. Our first portable stereo was a Silvertone bought in 1969 and it was made in the USA. I found it in storage after my parents passed and it still worked like new. Finally. I recently bought all new kitchen appliances and did not even consider Sears. Try to find a store. In days past I would not have considered anywhere else! That is the Sears I grew up with and to see the current excuse of a company for us is really sad.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Davdrea G.Flushing, United States214Jun 26, 2017
WORST SERVICE EVER!! Do NOT ... and i repeat DO NOT shop at this sears
Bought a refrigerator only to find out six month later the seal of the refrigerator door is falling apart
Made an appt;mind you they say time frame will be 8 to 5 which is basically the whole damn day.. to find out at 5 that nobody is coming
I called sears to find out when the tech is coming and rep states he cancelled due to an emergency... isnt is courtousey for them to call and let me know
They say they will reschedule me the next business day between 12 to 5
Once again i had to call sears after 5 to see where he's at bc im worried the same problem is going to happen
Calling sears it the worst! They transfer you to diff departments ... never buying anything from sears
No wonder their going down and closing stores
They suck!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Junior N.Massapequa, United States01116Mar 8, 2017
If I can give you zero stars I would ! I bought a $5000 refrigerator that broke down with WARRANTY and stoped work in less then a year ! After I speak to serval managers they decided to send a tech that told me the problems but tells me sears had to order the part. So I wait on sears to order it. Two weeks later I call them to see what's up and they tell me it's a Common issue and the refrigerator had been discontinued. We are now 2 MONTHS WITHOUT A REFRIGERATOR AND A $5000 bill to pay with spoiled food. I have 2 kids and my elderly people living with me. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
SEE YOU IN COURT SEARS!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 3, 2010Updated review
They have met the enemy, and it is Sears...
I like Sears for one reason - they are never that crowded. Why is beyond me but they have all the same stuff you can get elsewhere at decent prices - there must be some stigma attached to the Sears name...
In any case, I am keeping my promise that when hell freezes over I'll buy a hat - I'm so NOT a hat guy that if you knew me, you'd understand. Well apparently hell is trying very hard to freeze over and as I am, um, cough, aging, my follicles are departing at an alarming rate - so it was time to buy a hat.
Found what I needed in under 10 minutes and then waited another 25 to pay for it - since apparently there are only 3 cashiers in the whole store working on a Sunday...
Now I know why no one goes there.
BTW - they get one extra star for playing some un-Sears like music (Thievery Corporation)...Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Jul 28, 2008Previous reviewWhere America (used to) shop.
I can't figure out Sears- they have these Ginormous places on Long Island and I swear it seems like you can be one of only three customers in the entire place.
This used to be place that everyone went to for clothes, appliances and don't forget those tools- seems that somehow they lost their way or whatever but to be honest, I can grab me some decent deals in there and not have to die on line waiting to get rang up - unlike Macy's.
Huge, empty parking field to do donuts in is a double bonus. - Aug 26, 2008
It's not what it used to be when they first opened. Sears has evolved over the years as they're not a mass department retailer any more since they're cutting down on appliances and car accessories/car maintenance. They've become more clothing as per their slogan song "Come See the Softer Side of Sears..." The lines at their check out counters are indeed long with the lack of cashiers. Service is rather inattentive are sales associates are nowhere nearby for customer assistence. When asked for a light for insect repellant sales staff give shoppers this nasty "what are you talking about look" which portrays their total lack of knowledge in products.
Indeed it was where America shopped.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Zaneta O.Westbury, United States10297923200Dec 28, 2015
Sears sucks! Yep, I said it.... Their in store pickup service is completely useless. I ordered an item for my son for Christmas with plenty of time to spare. A few days after I received an email saying the order was confirmed and it was due to arrive on or before Dec 23rd. I waited and waited. They were supposed to email and/or text me when the pickup was ready. I never got anything. Fast forward to after Christmas, today I decided to log in and check on the status because I haven't heard anything and it's now Dec 28th. The item says it was shipped and delivered to the store on December 18th. At this point I figured I will just drive down the store because I was going out shopping anyway.
I get to the store and follow the signs for Merchandise pickup. I finally see the area where it's supposed to be yet there's no counter or anything else there. It's a random sign hanging in the kids section with no other signs or instructions. I approached a cashier in the kids section to ask her (Rachel). She didn't reply and got distracted with something else she was doing. I was waiting for her to turn back towards me and address me but she never did. At this point I felt snubbed so I said verbatim "Are you going to help me or do you just plan to ignore me?" She mumbled something under her breath that was completely indiscernible. Another lady at the counter interjected that I should just go "over there" - pointing to the sign. So I said there's no one over there. She said she would call someone but I watched her from afar and she didn't do anything but continue talking to the other cashier.
Finally I saw someone coming out of what I assume was the stock room and she was the most helpful person I encountered. She informed me that I needed to keep walking down a hall and outside the corridor doors to get to the Merchandise pickup section and then use the computer to pull up my order and someone would appear upon doing so. I did exactly as she said. The guy that came out to ask about my order said it wasn't coming up and it was still in transit but I told him on my side it said it was delivered. He said he would need to go search for it. He found it eventually and it was still boxed and never received in. I didn't actually get the email until after he did so. I believe that if I never showed up in the store I would probably still be waiting. I wasn't the only disgruntled customer that was waiting either. That's the first and last time I order anything from Sears. The End!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jan 16, 2013
I have too say i generally only buy 2 things at Sears, Batteries for the car and the Craftsman tools.
I have been to this Sears 100's of times over the last 30 years.
I have always been happy with every tool i ever got from sears never any big problems.
All tools are guaranteed for life, which is nice.
Always found the sales help to be nice and able to answer any questions.
Would highly recommend Sears for Craftsman tools.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marcus C.Fresh Meadows, United States8726361425Mar 12, 2016
I am torn between 2.5 to 3.0 stars.
After weeks of research on Consumer Reports (I pay the annual subscription anyway) and other review sites, my wife and I finally decided on a Kenmore refrigerator. We also debated and tried out top freezer v. bottom freezer, but decided to go with the top freezer because (1) it was cheaper and (2) the effort to get to the bottom freezer proved greater than having the regular refrigerator on the bottom while we were playing with the items at Sears. We went with a system without the ice maker or water dispenser, which apparently is the part of any refrigerator most likely to malfunction. Therefore, I guess I somewhat regret purchasing the 3-year warranty plan. Yes, I will place it onto my Google Calendar to schedule the free annual maintenance in about nine months, but maybe I should not have purchased the plan if I didn't have an ice maker or something else that could go kaput easily.
Delivery is a challenge - we had to pay extra for weekend delivery, was not given much of a window until a few days before delivery, and ended up being the last delivery on the list. The poor delivery guys had 22 appliance deliveries before us. There were no serious issues having the delivery people come in and out - they were exceedingly efficient.
The major problem came when we noticed that the top freezer was slightly dented a few hours after delivery. Interestingly, when I asked the delivery man whether that was a dent, he stated that it was merely the blue cover and that I should remove it in a few hours. After a few hours, I removed it and found that it was dented (more like a "ding"). I immediately called Sears and advised that this occurred. At first, the customer service representative asked whether I would take 100,000 points ($100 worth) to take it as-is. When I pressed and asked if someone could take it back, I was offered 200,000 points. After much prodding, I was offered 250,000 points to take it as-is. I guess Sears didn't really want me to ask that a new one be delivered. After deliberating this issue with my dear wife, we obliged and took 250,000 points, which was the "highest" compensation amount, (according to the Customer Service Representative, anyway). If you have any issues, be sure to negotiate! Try not to take the first offer!
I wish Kenmore did not use Sears as its exclusive distributor. I liked my appliance delivery experience with The Home Depot so much more (we bought a pair of LG Washer/Dryer). People there seemed significantly more knowledgeable than those who worked at Sears.
I share the awe expressed by other prior reviewers that a place like this can still exist - parking is always plentiful, service is not all that great, and prices are just okay. However, be advised that if the delivery people made 22 deliveries today alone, Sears isn't going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, it might be making a killing in the marketplace with its stranglehold on distribution for a reliable refrigerator brand like Kenmore.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
