I was headed out to headed out to Shoreline Village (see previous review) with some folks when I got asked to find a place to eat. They wanted Chinese and so I took out the iphone and made a search of nearby Chinese restaurants. This place stuck out from my Yelp search because of the number of reviews that have been written about this place.

When we stepped inside there weren't many customers. I was a little hesistant at first because I wondered why there weren't many folks there. (I found out later that this place starts to get crowded close to 8pm when the karaoke starts. We had arrived between 6:30 and 7pm)

Inside this place is pretty cool looking. They have neat lantern lights on the ceiling. There are lots of different photos on the walls There is even a huge portrait of Elvis. They have a pretty spacious place with a dance floor and a stage. The stage has cool looking flowers. Since it wasn't crowded (yet) we were seated right away. We got seated at a round table close to the karaoke stage.

We were given our menus right away and it was a pretty cool looking menu because they have photos of all their different foods. Food is a combination of Thai, Chinese and Cambodian. Their specialities lie more on Cambodian cusine.

Our chosen dishes for that night included: pan fried noodles, chicken with garlic, beef cubes, Chinese brocolli and fish filet with vegetables. We also wanted to order mapo tofu but the waitress said they were out of tofu =/.

Tastewise the food was pretty good. The beef cube dish was excellent. It is even served with side sauce that tastes like lemongrass.

The serving portions were good and the prices are great for dinner. The beef dish was only $6 - at other eateries this dish would have at least been $10! The whole bill came out to be less than $60! Winner!

As I mentioned earlier there is karaoke at this place. Close to 8pm they start setting up and they bust out cool green disco lights that light up the restaurant and the dance floor. There are 3 flat screen tvs on the walls and they start showing karaoke videos once karaoke starts. There is a giant projector that shows the karaoke videos too! The stage has a very concert feel- stereo system, two microphones. I love karaoke and I think it would be awesome to go karaoke singing here hehe. I now understand why there weren't many folks when we first came in. The real action at this place starts when karaoke starts. We were even told that they may offer free dessert if we sing (we didn't sing though lol).

Well, thanks Yelp. I found this place at the spur of the moment and it turned out to be a pretty good eatery and cool karaoke place.

Lastly I noticed something else that was cool about this place. They have a sign that shows different Hello Kitty wines. Wow a place that serves Hello Kitty wine! Neat! I don't drink wine but just the fact there is a place that serves Hello Kitty is just awesome! Woohoo Hello Kitty is everywhere.

This place is STRAIGHT UP CAMBODIAN! but after being seated they totally made us(a couple of mexicans) feel like family. I honestly thought we were walkin into a Donut shop from the way it looks outside but the layout is great. Once you inside there's plenty of room to get comfortable if you're on a date, or even if your hosting a party of 25+.

As soon as we sat down we dove right into the menu, lots of pics but not much description but totally it made asking the waitress about virtually every dish SO MUCH more fun and interesting to learn about all the different foods and where they come from...Seafood Combo Firepot soup, shrimp fried rice and marinated grilled chicken sticks is what we ordered, I had a Thai Tea to wash it all down....OH MY GAAAAAHH!!! it was like a party in my mouth!! The best part is they give you very generous portions at a great price (for all of us ballin on a budget).

One thing that i really appreciated about this place is that you can really enjoy yourself here. I guess on the weekend they have karaoke...ALL IN CAMBODIAN and projected on the big screen so we had a blast trying to figure out what the heck they were all singing about. Even tho it was all in Cambodian it was still great music and we enjoyed it very much.

We decided to stick around after eating for another hour and a half just to absorb as much of the ambiance as possible and it was then that i discovered a black and white VELVET PAINTING of ELVIS tucked in the very far corner by the DJ both. I couldn't believe it, my girlfriend and I were totally LMAO! These people really love music, and Elvis too for that matter.

I think it's the little things like that that make this place awesome. All in all it's a great place to have a great time!

Who has 2 thumbs and likes Cambodian food?

Cambodian, Thai, and Chinese all in one? I know it sounds cool but it's not one of those places where someone should travel the distance for. The restaurant itself was pretty decent and the same goes for food; but the wait staff was more on the rude side though.

We ordered Pad Thai with Chicken and the Thai Boat Noodle for $5.95 each, both had decent portions and were pretty average tasting. They also have a To-Go section with Chinese BBQ off to the right of the restaurant which didn't look that appetizing since everything looked old and dirty; especially the window where the roasted ducks and pigs were hanging from.

Was planning on going to New Paradise which is where i usually go for the Combination Noodle with shrimp, pork and meat balls but it was closed.

so someone at the Mike's Auto Shop which is where we dropped off our car, he suggested Dragon Sea BBQ.

The dish itself is ok. it fills the satisfaction. the people who usually go here are the retired who come to kick it with their homies. the service here can be kind of slow.

Terri's Kitchen was closed due to a family emergency and I'd forgotten where Phnom Penh Noodle Restaurant was (drove right past it I later figured out in my hungover stupor) and Long Beach Thai Restaurant was closed.

I wanted and needed some Boat Noodle Soup ASAP!!!

So circling like a shark looking for seals diving in the ocean from the Gallopolos Islands I found Dragon Sea BBQ Restaurant; I'd passed this place in Little Cambodia before and screeched into their lot.

The owner a Very nice man could see I needed a clensing, "Please sir have a seat I'll fix you up with good ingrediants".

As I was waiting I knew I would only come here for the Boat Noodle Soup, not the take out area or dining because even though the decorum is authentically cool with those Asian umbrellas open and upside down from the ceiling, the picture of Elvis in the corner in the back next to a Tiki Bar was somewhat perplexing.

Also, they did not have the AC running and it was muggy and warm inside; I felt like I was back in Vietnam in one of those hole in the wall eateries so, minus one star.

The owners' daughter brought up my order in 10 minutes and apologized before I could ask that they were out of Chinese Sweet Bread for my soup; no biggie my waste line will thank me and the soup was most important.

      Boat Noodle Soup- $6.51:
Chocked full of noodles, beef, chicken, pork, knee bones with marrow, Ping Pong Ball sized scallops, shrimp, crab and other tasty edibles; added to that the spicy hot sauce and Cambodian Black Syrup.

Add this life saver to my lists and:

Thai BOAAAATTT!!!! :) Dragon Sea is one of my family's go to place for Thai Boat. But some days we'll order other things. The menu isn't big, there's no appetizers and the food are big portions.

Although the food is pretty good. The atmosphere is kinda eh. There's so many old men there, one of the servers is kinda rude and the location is sometimes just way too big for how many people come in and out. But hey.. GOOD FOOD! haha!

Thai Boat here is the best in town.
Lok Lak is pretty good here too! Also the Fried intense!
My family always orders Duck, Chicken and roasted pork from here for pretty much every occasion. Thee best roasted pork in town!

If you don't mind old asian men.. come here! haha Okay fine.. I shouldn't hate on the Old Asian men. But COME! THAI BOAT IS SO GOOD! :)

One of the reasons why I wish I lived in Long Beach. The papaya salads here are just delicious! I don't remember the last time I stopped in Long Beach and didn't go for my usual papaya salad. The service is fast... but for some reason, the restaurant was almost always empty. I guess most people just order to go or something... but I like sitting there and enjoying my food.

Oh... and I've ordered their papaya salad's to go as well. All this time, I did not know that each order was only 5 bucks. What a steal!

I only come here for the Steam Buns and the awkward fried duck hanging outside the window! Yum.

Steams buns are a dollar and I always try to come early to grab a BBQ Pork steam Bun. But they always run out!!!!!! Always!!! Grrrr. Lol

Love the duck! So fattening but so good.

I went to Dragon Sea BBQ Restaurant last night after reading some reviews of the place on yelp that day. With that said, I have a few observations:

At first glance, this place is amazing. The outside of the Restaurant is slightly rundown, but in my experience, that is no indication of anything on the inside. When I walked in I was amazing by how big the place was and I noticed the karaoke immediately. SUPER huge plus, as I am completely obsessed with karaoke (even if it is all in Cambodian). We were sat right next to the speakers but moved pretty quickly into the night because the waitress realized how loud it was and hey, I was there for pleasant conversation.

Now onto the food: Let me preface this by saying that I don't think I've ever had Cambodian food before so the person I was with and I just decided to just order things, by way of pictures and weird names. We ended up with Beef Larb, Rad Nah for the appetizer and Nat Rok (we think that's the name). The Rad Nah pork dish was amazing, we both really enjoyed that. The other two dishes, not so much. They were both served lukewarm and neither of us knew if it was supposed to be like that. In fact, I think they were the same dish just in one the beef was in strips and the other it was ground. I put a fair amount of hot sauce on both to tone-down the saltiness and that made it much better. Again, I have no idea how these meals compare to other Cambodian dishes, but I am willing to try some other entrees in the future.

All-in-all it was a pleasant experience. The waitresses were nice and the ambiance cannot be matched (if you're looking for Cambodian dinner/karaoke/luke-warm food).

I would give this place 3.5 starts, if that were an option, just based on the karaoke music videos that were shot in 1985 and are boldly still playing at Dragon Sea BBQ Restaurant.
